Our
first title written and illustrated specifically for
younger readers. The authors have spent much of their

the environments encountered at the beach-from Cape
Cod, Massachusetts to Padre Island, Texas.
ABOUT
THE AUTHORS
ANDREA JAUCK worked throughout the country for
many years as a naturalist for the National Park Service.
Her favorite assignment was Assatague Island National
Seashore, along the coasts of Maryland and Virginia,
where she learned to love sandy beaches. She now works
as a naturalist and environmental educator in Illinois.
LARRY
POINTS has served as a naturalist at a variety of
national parks for more than three decades. Upon his
arrival to Assateague Island National Seashore in 1974,
he got “sand in his shoes” and this has
rooted him ever since to that special place. Mr. Points’
love for the shore and what it offers children is made
evident through several of his own photographs in Ribbons
of Sand.
