Assateague
is a long barrier island off the coasts of Maryland
and Virginia. On one side is the Atlantic Ocean; on
the other a calm bay. The Island is home to many animals,
both large and small. Assateague’s most famous
residents are the herds of wild ponies that live there.
This 32-page book includes plenty of color photos and
is intended for our younger readers.

of the island’s ponies. She and her husband now
live in University park, Illinois.
